Legal Administrators Conference (LAC 2009)

SFU Harbour Center (View Map)
515 W. Hastings St., Vancouver, BC
(Room number to be posted at main entrance)

It is too soon to know how long the current downturn will last. Either for the economy or for a number law firms. In Vancouver, a number of lawyers and staff have been let go. As legal administrators, a lot of these concerns may have begun to reach your desk, starting with budget cuts.

Conventional wisdom says that the best thing to do is to watch the cashflow and to limit the disbursements. Instead, consider investing your time and energies in getting a better sense of your firm's practice.

So when partners begin to talk about the commoditization of some or all of your firm's practice areas, it may be a good idea to begin to look deeper into the substantive issues that they are facing. Getting a sense of what is about to
happen will make you a more effective administrator.

The plenary sessions include:

  • The Rule of Law by Mr. Gordon Turriff, QC;
  • Top 10 Ways to Keep Clients and Win New Work by Ms. Susan Van Dyke;
  • HR Strategies to Manage the Economic Challenges by a panel of senior BCLMA HR managers;
  • How the Law Library Can Make a Difference in Your Practice, Teresa Gleave Faskens LLP; and
  • Can You Do Everything by Paul Gossen.

Select from these two tracks:

  • litigation; or
  • corporate.

Each full day session offers:

  • ample opportunity to ask questions from each presenter;
  • networking with your peers
  • a conference manual.
